St. Mary Parish Schools
Mar 2nd, 2010, 9:30pm

I'm sure glad to see that our School system hasn't changed on bit.  Ok, maybe it has changed but not for the good.  I have had problems at my childrens School for the past year.  I first thought, well things will get better.  I also thought that the School and teachers can not always be at fault, kids do push the limits.  But recently things have happen that I can not allow to go without voicing my opinion.  I have held too much in I guess and now its time to come out.

For the teachers out there reading this, it has nothing to be with teachers as a whole but a select few.  What I am dealing with is "teacher want to be's", aftercare workers as well as the Principal.  Do they not know of privacy laws, common courtesy?  I guess they haven't, but I can say this. When I am done, something had better be done or things will be aired in public.

Is anyone else having these types of problems?

I too share you distrust of the school system here in St. Mary Parish.
I understand that the profession of teaching requires so many dedicated hours, and that the labors of a great many teachers in their day to day battles, go unnoticed by so many outside the classroom.

However, one of the dirty little secrets of our system is this;  bad teachers still slide through the system!  They hide behind tenure, contracts, unions, and false charges of descrimination, sexism, racism, etc...  Principals cant remove them, they're simply stuck with them!  Every child that comes through the class of a poor unmotivated teacher, is scarred and suffers as a rewsult of that bad teacher, well into the next year in their next classes.  Teachers know who these persons are...and they also know why they are kept in the system!  Principals are usually stuck with them and can't make the needed moves to get better teachers into their schools!  The main office knows if they fire them, a lawsuit will follow and will cost money maybe even losing.
There are a lot of kids slipping through the gaps from start to finish, and we're letting them down.  We're letting the good teachers and principals down too!
