Jan 11th, 2010, 2:26pm

Wanted to let eveyone know about the money we possibly have coming

The St Mary Parish Government will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on   January 20, 2010  at the Morgan City Council Meeting Room – City Court Building, Corner Myrtle St and Hwy 182, Morgan City, LA.  The purpose of the meeting is to provide information on the Federal Fishery Recovery Program that was established to revitalize Louisiana’s commercial fishing industry impacted by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.  The meeting is also intended to obtain views and to discuss the submission of an application by the Parish for funding under the Coastal Community Fishery Recovery Program, which is part of the Federal Fishery Recovery Program. The following items will be discussed at the hearing:

A. The amount of funds available under the program;

B. The range of programs that is included in the Federal Fishery Recovery Program, including the Coastal Community Fishery Recovery Program, and requirements for benefit to persons of low and moderate incomes;

C. The plans of the Parish for minimizing displaced persons as a result of activities assisted with such funds and the benefits to be provided by the Parish to persons displaced as a result of such activities; and

D. The Parish’s past performance on CDBG projects funded by the State of Louisiana.

All residents, particularly commercial fisherman and low and moderate income persons, of St Mary Parish are encouraged to attend this meeting.

According to St. Mary Boat Landing Committee Consultant Merlin Price Jr. this $400,000.00 grant will enable the St. Mary Boat Landing and Waterways Committe to put in a floating dock structure at the Joe C. Russo Landing on Hwy 70. The floating dock proposed will be similar to the one at the Jessie Fontenot Landing in Berwick or Lawerence Michels Landing at the ICWW Locks in Morgan City. This floating dock is desperately needed in times of flooding.

In addition we are also proposing to use some of the money to replace the decking and inside timbers at the Marcel Landing under the old Hwy 90 Bridge in Amelia that were damaged as a result of the Hurricanes. And possibley install some floating docks under the bridge to use as dockage space for commerical fishermen if there are monies left over.

This is a $400,000.00 Commerical Fisheries Recovery Grant Grant associated with damages done from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike
