I am in favor of it.

Are you in favor of President Obama's health reform initiative? What do you think about health care reform?

answer to idlewild qusetion is yes.
wyatt herpes the health insurance problem needs more than tweeking. most
people are insured by their employer and have no idea the cost of helath
insurance. I'll give you just one example.
people that receive social securtiy(millions and MIllions) also have medicare that
they pay for but is managed by the federal government.

medicare pays for 80% of the doctor or hosiptal bill( paid for by the retiree)
supplement policy you have to buy pays only 20% of the bill(private insurance company)
but is 3 times higher than medicare. herpes how would you  tweek this?????????
The federal government has been in the health insurance business for
many many years  providing health insurance for the senior and for the
military. by the way herpes do you pay for health insurance, or does your employer?

Hardyken,

If I understand properly what you are saying, you're in favor of a government controlled healthcare plan for all of us!
O.K. then, so am I now!
I want the government to pay for my medical bills, medication and everything else medical because I dont want to have to pay for it!  I can't afford it, I am in poor health so I want the government to pay for it!
But!  Where does the government get it's money?  It's gets its money from the tax payers and businesses owners through sales taxes!  That's you and me!
So now, as tax payers you're paying for my medical bills and I'm paying for yours.  All the government is doing, is what it traditionally does best...take money from the tax payers and redistribute it to others as the government sees fit!  That, sad to say,  is most of the time, and purely for political reasons!
Government control does not lower costs on anything!  We all pay in the long run, and just dont know it!!!  It's our money!

By tweeking, I mean lets examine the costs of medical care!  What causes these costs to be so high?  Thats the true problem here!  There are many many reasons that no one seems to want on the table.  To fix the system and lower costs, several things have to happen, and in my opinion government control is not one of them!  Oh, and yes I pay for half of my insurance...by choice!  And yes my employee pays for the other half...by choice!  If either one of us didn't like the deal, we can opt out...by choice!

From reading what  Hardyken posted he or she is stating how
costly it is to buy private health insurance. I dont see where Hardken wants the
government to pay for everything. Now medicare is paid by the person receiving
social security and we will all have this when reaching the magic age, whether
we have private pensions or social security.
Good to hear Wyatt Herpes that your employer pays for your insurance most of us are not
that lucky. Is your employer in the private sector or public sector?

Maybe I missed the point he or she was trying to make!
My point was that anything the government pays for, is paid for by the tax payer!

I guess what I'd like to know is what specifically are you wanting to do to the current system in order to solve your concerns?

Now that it is passed it might be the right time to make a few comments.

First, only history will tell us whether the passage of the Universal Health Care Bill was a good or bad thing for our country. However, if the past is any indicator of the future it may prove to be one of the greatest accomplishments of Congress in over 50 years. Not since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has Congress made such a bold and significant move. Providing health care coverage to almost everyone and protecting those already insured from the abusive practices of insurance companies is long overdue.

Second, the process was revealing. The Republican Party is now in shambles, and may never fully recover. That is a tragedy. However, the Party let the Radicals Rule, and personally I have little respect for Radicals no matter what hat they may wear at any given moment or whatever cause they may promote. It is time for cooler and more moderate heads to prevail.

Third, the fallout for Louisiana politicians will be bad. Charlie Melancon is running for US Senator as a Democrat, but he voted like a Republican on this issue. If the people want a Republican they can vote for a Republican. We don’t need a false Democrat. David Vitter made of fool of himself, again, in his vocal opposition to this Bill. Let’s hope in the future we have better choices for elective office.

That Health Care Reform Act will only work if we, the voters, stay on top of it. Unfortunately, I - like everybody else - stopped even paying attention to what they are doing as soon as it passed and the media went on to something else. And as for the abusive practices of insurance companies... 35 years ago, I applied for health insurance and the company called my neighbors to ask if they had ever seen me smoking cigarettes! Can you believe???!!! I was LIVID !!!

As for Democrats who vote Republican... you're right on the money! ...and anybody who is thinking of voting for Vitter needs to ask themselves why he can't manage to live in the same town for more than a few years. Something IS rotten in THAT woodpile!

What worries me about the Radical Far Right is that they have "taken" the terms "Christian" and "Conservative"... I am an "old lady"... Christian, Conservative... Democrat... THEY don't speak for me!

Thanks so much for your post!

I am for the President's health care policy.  The system is just out of control.  I am an employee of the biggest employer in this parish.  My employer, who insures hundreds and hundreds of people pays for half of my insurance (I'm lucky).  My HALF is still $200 per month, and I am a non-smoker, non-drinker in good health!  Even if I did have to go to the doctor for something, the super-high deductibles make sure they never have to pay much of anything.  Someone is getting rich somewhere.

If you still don't think the system is corrupt, inquire about how much a visit/procedure costs if you don't have insurance.  It will cost you at least HALF of what they would charge your insurance if you have it.

@Idlewild - I think the only way we will have better choices of elected officials is if they quit paying a salary to the elected official.  If they are truly a servant of the people, then serve.
