Quote from tenacious on Feb 26th, 2009, 10:24pm:
You are right that the civil war was caused by a battle of state vs. federal rights.  Yes, if the states get too much power, it could be a bad thing, but then again if the states are stripped of their power, what happens then?  We are edging ever closer to Socialism, and if you are familiar with Karl Marx, you know what comes next. .

Hi,

I am new here and have enjoyed reading all of the posts.  Even though I am new, I felt after reading the quoted post above, that I should point out that all of the European countries have socialist governments and they are not moving toward communism.  Countries like France, Germany, etc.  Countries with parliaments are actually more democratic than our own representational republic because they speak for a broader demographic of their populus; whereas we have a bi-party, all or nothing election process.  Just thought I would throw that in there to think about.

Jim

I never had a problem with him before. I went to him for years with no problems. The same day a friend sent 5 guys to his office and he failed all 5 because they were deaf. When the guys got in the van the boss talked very softly and the heard every word.

I recently failed two company physical's because the Dr. that examined me on both exam's swore up and down that I had a hurniea. I was told to go to charity in houma and get it taken care of. Charity examined me and said there was nothing wrong. When I went back to the original Dr., he stated I needed to go to a family Dr. and get it taken care of. the family Dr. found nothing and refered me to a Surgeon, which also found nothing. I had since found other employment out of town and passed their physical. When work slowed down I went to find temp. work and again had to take a physical and guess what Dr. still would not clear me.  I finally give in and have the surgery and guess what. The surgeon found no hurnia. Now I wont give the Dr.'s name to protect his reputation, Dr. Melvin Bourgeois at 1201 Kenneth St. Morgan City, but I would be careful who you go too.

First of all, this President has done quite enough for the Oil Industry and Fishing Industry!  Second, he wants this whole issue over with and out of the news!

Also, Idle...this is a great website, I check it almost daily and like you,  would like to see more conversation taking place, but unfortunately some topics I think shy people away from debate!  Keep it up, something will happen that will start a good hard debate on some issue!

Well it would certainly be a disaster trying to put the President in the middle of the Shrimp & Petroleum
Festival. Certainly having him at the Ball is a possibility....but having him around the park or fair area is a disaster waiting to happen. Secret Service would never agree to that. The Ball could be handled as we have had former President Geral Ford and Ronald Reagan before he became President. Both events were at the Auditorium and were easily controlled. You saw all the BS that went on when Vic-Pres CHenny came for his "Duck Hunt".  Big Time Security Issues....a bunch of Officers tied up on that detail for three days.

Besdies that he won't pull that Moritorium off....and that part reallly pisses me off. A bunch of people are losing thier jobs and he and Biden don't have enough sense to realize what they are doing to us. I don't care to  see either one at a festival for "Shrimp & Petroleum".

Riverat, you are correct in the Teche flows North & South. The Route would be East of Bayou Teche.

I thought of and pitched this alternative route 20 years ago before those fine homes were built and the expansion of Cameron. This would have been the ideal area for the crossing of the Lower Atchafalya River. Over time areas change and will continue to change.

If the I-49 follows present Hiway 90 the interchange in Bayou Vista would not be the only challenge. There are many more challenges to consider. One is no room at Kemper Williams Park for service Roads. Another challenge is access to areas south of the railroad track.

These are just a few of the considerations needed for the Hiway 90 route. No matter the route, there will be problems to overcome. The question is which one will solve this areas hiway needs farther into the future, create a seamless traffic flow, (into, out of, & thru the area) and provide greater opportunity for growth.

There may be other alternatives that would be better than these two routes. All need to be explored. As slow as hiway building is this one is getting here sooner than we realize. Once constructed most of us will not see another project of this size in our lifetime.

I'm trying to understand how this route make any sense at all. Diverting Hwy. 90 north of the Bayou Teche in not even in the direction the highway flows.  Waddus you mentioned turning back south and connecting the Hwy. 90 somewhere in the BV/Berwick area.  Where  might that by?  Have you not driven through Bayou Vista in 30 years, it is solidly built up with residences and businesses.  All of that would have to be relocated.  Although, I think that would be more likely to happen than re-settling those wealthy individuals that have built homes and estates along the "Teche" in Berwick.

What was mentioned in Rep. Jones' newsletter actually makes more sense that what was originally proposed for Hwy. 90/I49 from Calumet to the Atchafalaya. That plan called for major interchanges at Southeast Blvd. in BV and in the area of Catherine Street in Patterson.  Consider if you would, an interchange similar in size to that in MC at Hwy. 90/70/182; 2nd exit off of the bridge heading east. The Catherine Street proposal would take a significant amount of potential commercial property out of commission, including the relocation of Patterson State Bank.  At Southeast Blvd. your talking about the relocation of Rite-Aid, Tampico, Chabills, McDonald's and others. The Railroad tracks also come into play at both of these intersections.

If you place major intersections at Red Cypress and another at Thorguson, there would be little commercial or residential that would be disrupted. Additionally, the intersection of Thorguson and 90 has the highest traffic counts(29,000+) of any intersections from Des Allemands and Broussard.  The Red Cypress intersection is not that far behind with 21,000 vehicles. Thus, interchanges at those 2 make sense, rather than your proposal or the original DOTD proposal.
